No matter how many children you have, each pregnancy is an individual moment in time for you.

Dr Matthew Holland welcomes new antenatal patients who wish to deliver privately at Newcastle Private Hospital. Dr Holland runs a full day antenatal clinic each Tuesday along side our midwife Hannah from 8:30am until 4:30pm. Appointments are also available on a Thursday morning and Monday fortnight. Pregnancy Schedule

Dr Matthew Holland welcomes new antenatal patients who wish to deliver privately at Newcastle Private Hospital.

WEEK 3-4

It's time to book in your pregnancy care. Monthly deliveries are capped to ensure the best possible care. Please call our rooms as soon you know you're pregnant to secure your place.
FIRST TRIMESTER
Up to 12 weeks
During your first trimester appointments are scheduled 4-5 weeks apart. At this time Dr Holland will discuss referring you the nuchal translucency test (NT Scan) and NIPS screening test.
You will receive the instructions for booking in to deliver at Newcastle Private Hospital and, if you would like to know, you may find out the gender of your baby through the NIPS result.
SECOND TRIMESTER
​13-24 weeks
Once you have passed your halfway mark, your appointments will be scheduled 2-4 weeks apart. During this time doctor will discuss referring you for your morphology scan.
THIRD TRIMESTER
​25 weeks to delivery
This is the busiest time of your pregnancy, with baby soon arriving appointments are scheduled 1-4 weeks apart, changing to weekly from 36 weeks. During this time doctor will discuss referring you for blood and glucose testing, vaginal swab, screening for GBS (group B Strep) and fetal well being ultrasound. ​

POST-NATAL
​Baby has arrived!
The postnatal appointment is made between 6-8 weeks after birth and is an appointment to check mum after delivery. This is a great opportunity to talk about any concerns you have since birth and to discuss other women’s health topics like birth control. Although we love to see bub, this appointment is all about mum.

3D & 4D Ultrasounds Provided

Dr Holland will perform a 2D ultrasound at each one of your antenatal visits, the images from these scans will be available for you to download free of charge after each visit. The optimum time for a 4D or 3D ultrasound is somewhere between 27-32 weeks of gestation. On either side of these time frames a three week “window” will still provide a good viewing alternative.

4D or 4 dimensional scans build on the technology of 3D scans. The extra dimension is time, so that effectively 4D ultrasounds are moving images of your baby in real time. As your baby kicks, moves, frowns, grimaces, sucks their thumb, opens their eyes and moves their lips, you will be able to see these movements on the scan as they are actually happening.

Both 3D and 4D ultrasounds are not designed to replace a standard obstetric ultrasound. Many companies will not do a 3D or 4D ultrasound unless a 2D medical diagnostic ultrasound has been done first. This is to screen out any abnormalities for both the mother and her baby.
